Rene Liu Apologises For Making Young Girl Cry During Her Concert (2025)

Fans usually love the song request segment at concerts. But once in a while, things may go awry.

At Taiwanese singer Rene Liu's concert in Shantou on May 26, what was meant to be a happy occasion turned into a sibling spat in front of a huge crowd.

During the song request segment, the 55-year-old star picked out a young girl from the audience and asked her to choose a song she wanted to hear.

However, before the girl could even respond, her younger sister interjected: "I want to sing too".

Rene's attention was immediately diverted to the younger girl, who excitedly exclaimed she wanted the singer to perform her 2000 hit 'Later'.

Her older sister who had been picked first, did not agree. She wanted Rene's 2021 single 'Honest', and even repeatedly yelling the song title to catch Rene's attention.

But for some reason, Rene was convinced that the older girl actually wanted 'Later' too.

"You just need to listen to me when you're at my concert. Don't be influenced by your mum. You want to listen to 'Later', right? If you choose 'Later' we can go home soon, because it's definitely the last song at all my concerts," laughed Rene.

The singer's words did not affect the girl's choice at all, and the latter still confirmed that she wanted to hear 'Honest'.

But it was too late. Before she knew it, the tune of 'Later' already began playing in the background.

Not only was the poor girl too stunned to react when Rene actually started singing 'Later', the situation was made worse when her younger sister swiftly yanked the microphone from her and sang along.

The older girl tried to pull the mic back from her younger sister, but her efforts were in vain.

As she watched the situation unfold, Rene attempted to console the girl:"Don't be angry, jie jie [elder sister in Mandarin]. You wanted 'Honest' right?"

However, this only prompted the girl to start crying.

The singer then told the sound crew to let the girl sing again. You'd think this meant she'd finally get to sing her 'Honest', right? Apparently not.

Once again, 'Later' began playing and the girl had no choice but to just go along with it. But at least this time, she finally got the microphone to herself.

News of the incident quickly made its rounds on the internet, and many netizens were bewildered by the blunder.

Some also claimed that they'd "totally start hating the singer" if this happened to them, while others felt bad for the poor girl.

Rene later also took to her socials to explain what actually happened that day.

She said that she had noticed the girl's disappointment at that time, and hence wanted to let her sing 'Honest'. However, due to a miscommunication, the band thought that she wanted to sing 'Later' again.

"We never had and will never have the intention to neglect a child's feelings. My entire team and I are deeply sorry for not handling the situation well and have seriously reflected on ourselves," she wrote before apologising to the girl and her parents.

Her crew also shared a separate apology, claiming that they would try their best to not make such mistakes again.

Well, guess it was just an 'Honest' mistake...
